Monday I was bored with my usual easy-run listenings, so I busted out a soundtrack from three years ago. I found it highly entertaining, not just because I haven’t heard some of these songs in a while, but because of the memories they brought back of that time: Spring 2005.
One listen of this and I decided to get with the times and make a new playlist. I’m still tinkering, but I’ll share it when it’s ready. The beta version is so rockin' that I almost air-guitared myself off the treadmill yesterday during a tempo run.
- Moby – Bodyrock
My favorite kickoff song. - Weezer – Beverly Hills
Added after I knew I would be teaching in the wealthiest county in TN. Saw them live in ’05. - Green Day – American Idiot
Love the tempo and the message. Saw them live in ’06. - Weezer – My Name Is Jonas
Love the sing-songy lyrics w/electric guitar. - INXS – Devil Inside
I had to add this after I read American Psycho. Then I watched the movie (this song’s not in it! horrible omission!) and fell in love with Christian Bale. - Van Halen – Why Can’t This Be Love
Spring 2005. I was months away from getting married. Don’t psychoanalyze. It’s for this lyric: “All I know/You’ve got to run to win/And I’ll be damned if I get hung up on the line” - Garbage – When I Grow Up
I can’t help feeling powerful listening to this song. One of the first CDs I stole from my sister. - Moby – Run On
Not a great song to run to, in spite of the title. It’s more groovy. - Gwen Stefani – Hollaback Girl
Pure fun. Hey, it was ’05! - Green Day – Holiday
Especially appropriate after school got out. - Public Enemy – He Got Game
This song is so (unintentionally) hilarious. Love the riff on Buffalo Springfield. “There’s something happenin’ here (yeah, yeah!)…” - Real McCoy – Run Away
The 80’s synth dance beat, the pour-your-heart-out lyrics…What’s not to love? - Coldplay – Speed of Sound
Like Moby’s Run On, not a stellar choice as the name would indicate. Groovy, though. - Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil
This is one of those songs that I downloaded during the early 2000s in my college dorm room during that golden age of unfettered Napsterism. I credit that era for expanding my musical horizons and teaching me about the intricacies of copyright law. - Queen w/David Bowie – Under Pressure
A great song for when you’re planning your wedding. Ha!
Any chance I can bring back the word groovy?

Excellent! Memories for me there, too.
And...umm...am I not supposed to say "groovy"?
i am so very very old...
Whoa. How many CDs have you stolen???
Moby Rocks, even after 3 years. Oh, but Queen/David Bowie, now you are talking in my era!
holly - glad to hear you groove, too. this hs teacher gig makes me extra self-conscious about my verbiage.
claudia - nooooooot! okay then, what's on YOUR playlist?
katie - you'll never know. they were always carefully replaced exactly where i found them.
lannae - agreed - moby is the stuff. and under pressure is timeless. ice ice baby!
I always had a feeling you were going thru my stuff and wearing my clothes.
The kicker: I was doing the same to you! :)
First, watch this.

Then read this.

It just seems like a really fun way to run.
Katie, you were, and always will be, the alpha sibling. Invading my space was your right.
James, this is totally awesome. I'm working up the guts to incorporate a 360 wallrun into my next jog. If I end up in traction, you're paying my doctor's bills. :) Linkhopping from where you sent me, I discovered that they're releasing a "Freerunning" game for the PSP. Guess they're trying to create a Sony Mario.
